Rivers of Resin, Roots of Maple

Crafted from a striking big leaf maple slab, this 36” x 54” table is brought to life with a custom-formulated epoxy color using Superclear Resins. The swirling inlay highlights the wood’s natural voids and flowing grain, creating a dynamic visual that blends organic warmth with bold, contemporary design. Finished with a hard wax and ceramic coating, the tabletop achieves a smooth satin sheen that enhances the natural beauty of the wood without the high-gloss look of epoxy.

Background Story
Big leaf maple, native to the Pacific Northwest, is admired for its soft, flowing grain patterns and light tones that take on vivid contrast when paired with resin. This slab, sourced from a supplier in Massachusetts, carried natural voids and softer pockets that gave it both character and challenges.
Working with this piece meant carefully filling deep voids and stabilizing areas where the wood had softened. Instead of hiding these imperfections, we embraced them—using a custom resin blend to both strengthen and enhance the slab’s natural movement. Precision was key in ensuring the transitions between wood and resin remained seamless while maintaining structural integrity.
The result is a big leaf maple table that balances raw natural character with refined craftsmanship. The custom epoxy color accentuates the maple’s flowing grain and voids, turning natural challenges into striking design features. The satin finish, achieved through hard wax and ceramic coating, highlights the wood’s warmth while providing durable protection—making the piece both timeless and inviting.
