Custom Teak Helm Console for S/V Irish Blessing
A custom-engineered teak helm console designed and built for Irish Blessing, a Tartan 34 sailboat. This piece replaces the original helm cup holder with a precision-fit accessory designed specifically to hold Yeti cups securely while sailing.
From Vision to Finished Piece
1. The Customer’s Vision
Every project starts with the customer’s specific needs. For Irish Blessing, the owner wanted a custom helm console that would hold Yeti cups securely while sailing, fit precisely around the existing binnacle and compass, and look like it belonged on the boat. We translated that vision into detailed engineering drawings covering top views, cross-sections, and exact dimensions for every cut, hole, and mounting point.
2. 3D Design and Prototyping
From the approved drawings, we built a full 3D CAD model of the console. This let us visualize the finished piece from every angle before committing to material, and produce a 3D-printed scale model the customer could hold and evaluate before manufacturing began.
3. CNC Manufacturing
With the design locked in, we milled the console from a solid block of teak on our CNC. Every cup holder, mounting slot, and the “Irish Blessing” engraving were cut with precision that hand tools simply cannot match.
4. Marine-Grade Finish
The console received multiple coats of marine-grade polyurethane, building up a deep amber high-gloss finish that protects against saltwater, UV, and the elements while showcasing the natural beauty of the teak grain.
5. The Result
The finished console installed on Irish Blessing’s helm, exactly where it was designed to live. A perfect fit around the compass and guard rails, secure cup holders for every passage, and a piece that looks as good as the boat it sails on.
